COURAGE
Letting go of all fears and doubts to complete a task no matter what the cost.
In the scene, Jackie Robinson became so angered that he left the field and broke his bat in pieces. The racist remarks from his opponent, the fans, and even his own teammates had begun to take its toll.
Branch Rickey convinced Robinson to exercise courage. Opposed to giving up, Rickey encouraged Robinson to go back on the field so that he could hit, score, and help win the game. In addition, he encouraged Robinson by telling him that everyone needed him.
VALUE QUOTES
“…do not ever underestimate the importance you can have because history has shown us that courage can be
contagious and hope can take on a life of its own.”
“History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.”
Maya Angelou’s quote tells us that through exercising courage, Robinson could move past the pain on and not relive the past.
First lady Michelle Obama’s quote is truly realized as Robinson’s acts of courage in 1947 have sparked many that have come behind him and are excelling in various industries to this day.
